Three-Look Actor Headshots
Three-Look Actor Headshots
When an actor books a multi-look session, I do a little dance because I know how valuable these sessions are for actors, and I have a wonderful time crafting, creating, and deciding how we can best showcase all of these fun character shots. I love seeing the deep-rooted skills of Orlando actors. These professional headshots in Orlando are especially fun because actors in central Florida often need a wide variety of looks for this market.
Usually with a three-look acting headshot session for the Orlando market, we start with a theater look.
Theater Actor Headshots
Most often, actors that come through my studio seek after theater roles and film roles. Theater acting headshots have a very different look than film regarding posing, lighting, expression, backdrop, and overall essence. These theatrical headshots are styled after what they love to see for the New York market: simple, perfectly-lit, strong contrast, shadows to showcase face shape, and a backdrop that allow the actor’s eyes to truly tell a story.
High contrast and intentional shadows are important for theater acting headshots because often, these headshots are used in a program and are usually converted to black and white. Contrast helps you continue to stand out despite the color being removed from the portrait, and will be an attractive program headshot for theater productions.
Neutral Film Acting Headshots- Simple and Bright!
For film actors, we always try to get a very neutral headshot that could be used in any film audition or circumstance. These headshots must be dynamic, but simple. In Orlando, it’s also important to keep the neutral headshot friendly and “bright-eyed”. Extreme backgrounds, really bright colors, and busy settings do not work well in Florida, though they may work well for Los Angeles. In Orlando, we keep our headshots friendly and simple to best showcase the actor’s smile, eyes, face shape, hair color, eye color, and everything else that matters at first glance.
With teen actors and child actors, we keep our expressions very young. Casting directors want to be able to envision the young actor in roles that are often younger than the actor actually is.
Sometimes we opt for environmental backdrops, and sometimes we choose a flat studio backdrop. As long as the backgrounds are simple and neutral, the actor will get the focus, which is just what we want!
Third Look - Character Acting Headshots
Then for look three (and beyond), we get to tap into your type. What roles an actor tends to go for will influence our outfit choice for the third look. Younger actors must keep the looks youthful, but can consider different roles like, the best friend, nerd, teacher’s pet, bully, etc. A very simple hint of this outfit is all we need to paint a picture of this potential character.
For adults, we can get a little more creative, though never too specific. For instance, a simple blazer over a button-up could represent a multitude of characters - lawyer, detective or cop, CEO, etc.
